Individual Tomato Basil Tarts (Dairy-Free, Egg-Free, Vegan)
Instructions
1
Preheat oven to 400F. Roll out the puff pastry and transfer to a baking sheet. Some come already rolled with parchment paper, if yours doesn’t, prepare a baking sheet then roll out puff pastry.
2
Cut 8 even rectangles in the puff pastry. Top each section with your desired amount of cheese and one slice of tomato. Sprinkle with fresh basil, salt, and pepper.
3
Bring the opposite sides of each section together, then bake for 15 minutes. Tarts are ready when cheese is melted and puff pastry is golden. Serve and enjoy immediately!

Tips & Tricks (5)
- Dry Your Tomatoes 🍅Pat tomato slices thoroughly with paper towels and let them sit on a lined baking sheet for 10 minutes before assembling to remove excess moisture, preventing soggy pastry and ensuring optimal crispness.
- Preheat & Dock Your Pastry 📌Prick the puff pastry base with a fork before topping to prevent excessive puffing and create an even surface for your toppings to sit on properly.
- Chill Before Baking ❄️Assemble your tarts and refrigerate for 10-15 minutes before baking to help the pastry maintain its structure and achieve maximum flakiness during cooking.
- Strategic Basil Application 🌿Add half the basil before baking for deeper flavor infusion, then top with fresh basil immediately after removing from the oven to preserve its bright, aromatic qualities.
- Vegan Cheese Placement Timing ⏱️Place vegan mozzarella on the tart 5 minutes into baking rather than at the start to prevent it from browning excessively while allowing it to melt evenly across the tomatoes.
