Perfect Oven-Roasted Steak
Instructions
1
|
Season the steaks on both sides with the salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Allow them to rest at room temperature while the oven preheats.
2
|
Preheat the oven to 400°F.
3
|
Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.
4
|
Set a large skillet over high heat and add the oil and butter. Once the oil is very hot and shimmering, add the steaks. Sear steaks for 1 minute without moving. Flip and sear the other side for 45 seconds longer.
5
|
Transfer the seared steaks to the prepared baking sheet.
6
|
Roast the steaks on middle rack of oven until they reach desired level of doneness, 9-12 minutes. Allow the meat to reach an internal temperature of at least 130°F for a medium steak.
7
|
Check to see that steaks are done. Remove from oven or add time as needed.
8
|
Allow steaks to rest for 5 minutes before serving.

- Oil and Seasoning Technique 🧂Pat steaks completely dry with paper towels before applying olive oil and seasonings to achieve a perfect sear and crispy exterior.
- Cast Iron Magic 🍳Use a cast iron skillet for superior heat retention and a beautifully caramelized crust when transitioning from stovetop to oven.
- Butter Basting Trick 🧈During the last few minutes of cooking, add a pat of butter and baste the steak to enhance flavor and create a rich, glossy finish.
- Resting Rack Technique 🥩Let the steak rest on a wire rack instead of a flat surface to prevent steam buildup and maintain the crispy exterior.
