Easy Baked Salmon with Herb Butter
Instructions
1
Preheat the oven to 400°F.
2
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
3
Gently pat salmon fillets dry with paper towels. Place on the baking sheet, skin side down.
4
Sprinkle the tops of the salmon with the salt and black pepper.
5
Place the butter in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high until melted, 30-40 seconds.
6
Finely mince the fresh herbs.
7
Finely mince the garlic.
8
Add the garlic and herbs to the bowl of melted butter, and whisk with a fork to combine.
9
Use a spoon to divide the herb butter equally between each salmon fillet. Gently spread it into an even layer over the tops of the fillets.
10
Bake the salmon on middle rack of oven until it flakes easily with a fork, 12-15 minutes.
11
Check to see that salmon is done. Remove from oven or add time as needed.
12
Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the salmon if desired. Serve immediately. Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days.

Tips & Tricks (5)
- Compound Butter Preparation 🧈Make your herb butter ahead of time and let it soften at room temperature for 15 minutes before baking—this ensures even distribution and creates a luxurious sauce as it melts over the hot salmon.
- Precise Salmon Doneness 🌡️Check internal temperature at the thickest part using a thermometer—aim for 120-125°F for medium-rare, as residual heat will continue cooking during resting and prevent dryness.
- Lemon-Garlic Synergy 🍋Slice lemon thin and layer it directly under the salmon fillet to infuse subtle citrus flavor while the garlic in your herb butter caramelizes slightly from direct contact with the hot pan.
- Pat-Dry Technique 💧Use paper towels to thoroughly dry your salmon fillets before cooking—this removes surface moisture that prevents proper browning and allows the herb butter to adhere better to the flesh.
- Fresh Herb Selection & Storage 🌿Use delicate herbs like tarragon, chervil, or dill instead of hardy rosemary—chop them just before mixing into butter to preserve volatile oils that deliver maximum flavor and aroma in your finished dish.
