1/4
Homemade Mozzarella Sticks
Instructions
1
Cut the block of mozzarella into thick strips.
2
Prepare three bowls: one with flour, one with whisked eggs, and one with breadcrumbs. Season all three with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
3
Dredge each mozzarella strip in flour, then egg, then breadcrumbs. Repeat with a second coating of egg and breadcrumbs.
4
Place coated mozzarella sticks on a tray and freeze for 1–2 hours until firm.
5
Heat neutral oil in a pot to 350°F (175°C).
6
Fry mozzarella sticks in batches, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy. Do not overcook.
7
Remove and place on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
8
Sprinkle with salt and grated Parmesan. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.

Tips & Tricks (5)
- Freeze Twice for Maximum Cheese Retention 🧊Freeze the breaded mozzarella sticks for at least 4 hours, then briefly refreeze after frying to ensure the cheese stays contained and doesn't leak during cooking.
- Double-Dredge with Egg Wash Between Coatings 🥚After the first flour-egg-breadcrumb coating, dip again in egg wash and breadcrumbs for an extra-thick, supremely crispy exterior that resists oil absorption.
- Use Whole Milk Mozzarella for Lower Moisture Content 🧀Select fresh mozzarella that's been refrigerated, not room temperature, and avoid overly soft varieties—firmer blocks hold their shape better during frying.
- Oil Temperature is Critical—Use 350°F Precisely 🌡️Maintain exact oil temperature with a thermometer; too cool results in greasy sticks, too hot bursts the cheese before the coating crisps up.
- Season Your Breadcrumb Mixture Generously 🧂Mix garlic powder, Parmesan, salt, and black pepper directly into the breadcrumbs before coating—this ensures bold seasoning throughout rather than just on the surface.
