Peel the butternut squash. Cut it in half lengthwise and remove the seeds. Slice each half crosswise into scant 1/4-inch slices.

9
|
Allow the casserole to rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Tips & Tricks (5)
- Squash Roasting Secret 🎃Before assembling the casserole, roast the butternut squash at 425°F with a light olive oil coating to concentrate its natural sweetness and develop deeper flavor.
- Breadcrumb Magic 🍞Toast the fresh breadcrumbs in butter before topping the casserole to create an extra-crispy, golden-brown crust that adds incredible textural contrast.
- Cream Infusion Technique 🥛Warm the heavy cream with fresh thyme and a pinch of nutmeg before mixing with squash to allow the herbs to release their essential oils and create a more complex flavor profile.
- Cheese Layering Pro Tip 🧀Grate the Parmesan fresh and layer it between squash layers, not just on top, to create pockets of melted cheese throughout the casserole.
- Moisture Control Hack 💧If the squash seems watery, pat the cut pieces dry with paper towels before roasting to prevent excess moisture and ensure a creamy, not soggy, final texture.
