Traditional or retro? Whichever it is, the combination of ham and pineapples coated in a buttery brown sugar glaze will always be a favorite. The recipe is a Yummly original created by Sara Mellas.
7 Ingredients
Instructions
1
|
Set a rack to the lowest position in the oven. Preheat oven to 325°F.
2
|
Line a roasting pan with aluminum foil, and position a roasting rack in the pan. Place ham on the middle of roasting rack. Pat the ham dry with paper towels to help the glaze adhere better.
3
|
Place the melted butter, brown sugar, ground cloves, and pineapple juice in a small mixing bowl. Whisk until combined.
4
|
Brush the surface of the ham with a small amount of the brown sugar and pineapple mixture.
5
|
Secure the pineapple slices over the surface of the ham with toothpicks. Secure a maraschino cherry into the center of each ring and in the open spaces between rings.
6
|
Brush about half of the remaining brown sugar and pineapple mixture over the pineapple rings and cherries.
7
|
Bake ham on lowest rack of oven until it has reached an internal temperature of about 145°F and the glaze is caramelized, 2-2 1/2 hours, or about 15 minutes per pound of ham. For the first half of the cooking time, keep the ham loosely covered with foil. Every 30-45 minutes, open oven door and baste ham with additional brown sugar and pineapple glaze.
8
|
Check to see that the ham is done. Remove from oven or add time as needed.
9
|
Allow ham to cool on roasting rack for 15 minutes. Transfer to cutting board, then carve and serve. Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

Tips & Tricks (5)
- Glaze Layering Technique 🍯Apply the brown sugar and pineapple juice glaze in multiple thin layers during the last 30 minutes of baking to create a rich, caramelized exterior without burning.
- Pineapple Placement Perfection 🍍Secure pineapple slices to the ham with whole cloves for both decorative appeal and an additional layer of aromatic flavor, creating a classic presentation.
- Ham Moisture Magic 💦Cover the ham loosely with aluminum foil for the first 2/3 of cooking time to retain moisture, then uncover to allow the glaze to caramelize in the final cooking stage.
- Clove Distribution Pro 🌿Grind whole cloves fresh and sprinkle them evenly across the ham's surface for a more intense and balanced spice profile compared to pre-ground cloves.
- Juice Reduction Hack 🥄Reserve some pineapple juice to create an extra batch of glaze for serving, allowing guests to add additional flavor and moisture to their ham slices.
